This is a dedicated discussion space for Professor Renzi's ENG 353 course during Fall 2011. We will blog as a way to practice analytical reading and writing, as well as to continue our discussions this semester beyond the confines of our class meetings.

The Prime of Miss Jean Brodie
Throughout the novel, I could not get over the fact that these girls fawned over and idolized Miss Brodie. They wanted to know what "prime" was and the fact that Miss Brodie would say that she was focusing on them as their prime tried to make them feel special. She taught through experience and I think this is and important aspect yet she made her students or rather the select few students whom she selected idolize her beliefs. She had favorites which were these handful of girls whom she wanted to morph to be herself. Miss Brodie was a recognized as a spinster throughout the book, yet the girls did not see her as this but rather as just being in her "prime." I could not get over the fact that these girls were told to pretend to read a lesson based on what they were supposed to be learning whereas she had experiences she wanted to share with them. They were not being taught but rather putting on an act in order to please Miss Brodie.
