depiction of Helga in Chapter 13
In Chapter 13, Helga to me is seen as imitating a doll and not being willing to stand up for what she believes in and what she wants to wear. Rather she lets others dress her up the way they want to see her and how she should be seen. Helga sees her body in this chapter as being objectified yet she does not seem to mind this. She never thought of herself before in a way that was pretty yet her aunt and uncle want to show off her beauty and shorten her skirt and buy her jewelry to showcase her beauty. By playing up her looks, this chapter showcases a representation of how women should look and how she should be trying to attract men and show off her "assets."

I never thought of chapter 13 in this way, but it is interesting that she is almost like a doll. I believe that she liked the kind of attention she was getting which is why she allowed for this to happen. It seemed to pay off because she did attract men.
Yeah, I definitely noticed this in chapter 13 and thought it was really interesting. It seemed to me that she was not only being shown off to men, but also women. Everyone looked at her like she was on a whole other level (like not human?). As you pointed out, I find it was intriguing that Helga didn't take much offense to it.
