Bridget Jones' Diary

After viewing this movie for the second time it was extremely easy to see how many elements of chick lit were apparent in the movie. It was easy to tell that this was a book before it was a movie. The part that stuck out the most to me was the element of humor in this. It was good that Bridget could laugh at herself sometimes and could see how pathetic her life was. Another part that screamed chick lit was her circle of friends. When she had to go to the work party to announce the book, her friends coached her for so long. This is an element of chick lit because in this genre, the friends have an equal or more important role then family have. They told her what to do, say and how to act. Of course once Bridget was thrown into it in real life all she could come up with is "do you know where the toilet is?"

Bridget refers to the term 'spinster' four times throughout the movie. The most interesting one to me was when she says she is "no longer a tragic spinster." I thought this was a little bit of a leap to say, just because they went on a mini vacation together. She states that "a mini break means true love." I think later on in the movie she realizes that a mini break isnt true love but when someone says something like "i like you, very much, just the way you are."

I agree. I think the comedic relief help Bridgette and the view understand the a "Spinster"in a different lite. You seen her more as a everyday single girl rather than a old middle aged maiden.
